House gutted by fire in Brighton Heights section of Pittsburgh








On Monday, January 31, 2011 at approximately 2:00p.m. zone 1-14 was struck for a vacant house on fire at the intersection of Cottage and Grenada in the Brighton Heights neighborhood, of the City of Pittsburgh. 35 Engine arrived on the scene... within minutes and reported heavy smoke showing from the 1st division, of a two-story wood frame residential.

Crews reported heavy fire showing from the Charlie side of the structure, with exposures on the Delta side. Crews advanced attack lines into the structure and initiated an aggressive attack. The District Batallion Chief requested a 2nd alarm assignment upon his arrival.

Crews quickly knocked down the bulk of the fire and then began opening walls and pulling ceilings to expose the fire that had extended to the upper floor. Interior crews darkened the remaining fire and command placed the fire under control within 45 minutes. Crews remained on the scene for an extended period of time for hot spot extinguishment and overhaul. The Salvation Army mobile canteen unit was at the scene providing hot/cold drinks and snacks to the emergency personnel. The City of Pittsburgh Arson Squad was called to the scene. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
