Late Tuesday night, March, 8, 2011, Perry County 911 received multiple calls reporting a house on fire on Madison Road in Southwest Madison Township. First arriving units encountered a fully involved two-story wood frame house and responders were immediately informed by a a couple outside, that seven of their children were still inside the house. The fire spread quickly throughout the house and any rescue attempts were unsuccessful. The children, six girls and a boy, ranging in ages 9 months to 11 years old, were found in three separate rooms in house.

A 3-year old child escaped the burning house and ran to the near by barn where her mother was milking cows, to tell her about the fire. The father of the children was asleep in his milk delivery truck approximately a mile down the road from the house. The mother picked up her 3 year old child and ran to neighboring houses to have them call 9-1-1, she then the mile down the road with the 3 year old to where her husband's truck was parked, banged on the windows of the truck to wake him and alert him of the fire. The three of them ran back to the house and discovered the house was fully involved.
