Overnight fire engulfs vacant house in Hampton Township


On Sunday, December 5, 2010 at approximately 2:05a.m. Allegheny County 9-1-1 received several reports of a vacant house on fire at 2489 Saddle Drive in Hampton Township. Hampton (Station 164), North Hampton (Station 165), Peebles (Station 188) and Hampton EMS were dispatched on the initial assignment.


Hampton Township police officers arrived on the scene within minutes and reported that the structure was fully involved. With the report from police officers, 164 Assistant requested that Middle Road (Station 174) and Elfinwild (Station 261) be added to the assignment.


164 Assistant arrived on the scene and assumed command, reporting a fully involved split level brick residential. Command advised all responding units that it would be a defensive attack. Crews battled the blaze for approximately 90 minutes, before they had the bulk of the fire darkened. Command placed the fire under control at approximately 3:55a.m.


The Salvation Army mobile canteen unit responded to the scene to provide snacks and hot/cold drinks to the emergency service personnel. The Allegheny County Fire Marshal was called to the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
