On Saturday, February 19, 2011, at approximately 6:40p.m. multiple callers reported fire in an apartment building on E.29th Street, with entrapment. The fire quickly escalated to 5-alarms, as 50mph winds helped fuel the fire, spreading it throughout the multi-story brick apartment building. During the blaze, a mayday was called. It has been reported that 25 FDNY Bravest were injured battling the intense blaze. The fast moving fire also claimed the life of a 64 year old female resident on the upper floor of the building and also injured 4 other tenants that resided in the building. The building was a total loss!
