House gutted by fire in Brighton Heights section of Pittsburgh

On Monday, January 31, 2011 at approximately 2:00p.m. zone 1-14 was struck for a vacant house on fire at the intersection of Cottage and Grenada in the Brighton Heights neighborhood, of the City of Pittsburgh. 35 Engine arrived on the scene... within minutes and reported heavy smoke showing from the 1st division, of a two-story wood frame residential.

Crews reported heavy fire showing from the Charlie side of the structure, with exposures on the Delta side. Crews advanced attack lines into the structure and initiated an aggressive attack. The District Batallion Chief requested a 2nd alarm assignment upon his arrival.

Crews quickly knocked down the bulk of the fire and then began opening walls and pulling ceilings to expose the fire that had extended to the upper floor. Interior crews darkened the remaining fire and command placed the fire under control within 45 minutes. Crews remained on the scene for an extended period of time for hot spot extinguishment and overhaul. The Salvation Army mobile canteen unit was at the scene providing hot/cold drinks and snacks to the emergency personnel. The City of Pittsburgh Arson Squad was called to the scene. Cause of the fire is under investigation.

Residential structure fire Wallington New Jersey injures two firefighters

On Saturday, January 22, 2011firefighters were dispatched to 25 Armm Avenue in Wallington, New Jersey for a report of a residential structure fire. First arriving personnel reported heavy smoke and fire showing from a 2 1/2-story wood frame residence. The incident was upgraded to a 3 alarm fire. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries following a Mayday that was transmitted. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Landmark Business in Lancaster destroyed by fire

On Thursday, January 20, 2011 shortly before 9:00p.m. Lancaster City Firefighters were dispatched to 315 North Queen Street, for a reported commercial structure fire. First arriving units reported heavy smoke from the roof of Zap & Co, a landmark business, which was a retro clothing store. Firefighters quickly realized that someone was trapped in an apartment above the business. Crews rescued the male and turned him over to the care of EMS personnel. The male, who was determined to be the owner of the business, was airlifted to a hospital in Delaware County, where he was placed in a medical induced coma and is in critical but stable condition. The fire rapidly spread and there were multiple exposure problems. The fire quickly escalated to a general alarm with an additional truck added. Firefighters did a great job protecting exposures and making a successful rescue. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Two St Petersburg officers shot and killed U.S. Marshal wounded

On Monday morning, January 24, 2011 St. Petersburg Florida Officers and U.S. Marshals went to 3734 28th Avenue South to attempt to execute an arrest warrant on Hydra Lacy Jr. During the execution of the arrest warrant there was a shoot-out ensued in the attic area of the residence where Lacy was armed and hiding. K9 Officer Jeffrey Yaslowitz was shot and fell in the attic and the U.S. Marshal was shot and fell to the ground. As Sgt. Thomas Baitinger  and other officers were attempting to rescue the downed officers, Lacy opened fire from the attic shooting through the ceiling, fatally striking Sgt. Baitinger. SWAT teams made entry and searched the residence looking for Lacy after the fallen officers were rescued from the house. Lacy's body was found in the rubble several hours later. R.I.P. Officer Yaslowitz and Sgt. Baitinger.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Officer shot multiple times during traffic stop

On Sunday, January 23, 2011 at approximately 9:00a.m. Officer David Moore of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department initiated a traffic stop in the 3400 block of North Temple. It was during this traffic stop that Officer Moore was shot 4 times, twice in the head, once in the hip and once in his bullet-proof vest.

Officer Moore is in the ICU at a local hospital in a coma, fighting for his life. They currently have a person of interest in custody. The person of interest is being held currently on a robbery and being a felon in possession of a gun. Thomas Hardy 60 years old, is the person in question. Hardy is being charged with an armed robbery that occurred less than an hour after Officer Moore was shot. Police recovered a gun and numerous other pieces of evidence during a search warrant execution at Hardy's residence. A stolen Toyota Camry that Hardy was believed to be operating, was located in a downtown parking garage.

4 Detroit Police Officers shot inside police station

On Sunday, January 23, 2011 at approximately 4:30p.m. A male walked into the 6th precinct police station in Detroit and opened fire on several Officers, including the precinct Commander. Officers returned fire and killed the suspect. All of the officers are expected to recover from their gunshot wounds. Keep the officers in your prayer for a speedy recovery. It is a damn shame that society is so messed up now days that police officers aren't even safe inside the police station. Truly unbelievable!!

Remembering Black Sunday in New York 6 years later

January 23, 2005 was a very tragic day in New York. At a working apartment building fire on E. 178th Street, two of FDNY Bravest jumped to their death from a 4th floor window, as they tried to escape the raging fire, 4 other bravest were badly injured. Later that same tragic day, another FDNY Bravest  was killed while searching the basement at a working fire in a residential dwelling in Brooklyn.

Baltimore County Volunteer Firefighter killed in line of duty

On Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at approximately 7:00p.m. Fire units were dispatched to a reported structure fire with entrapment at an apartment complex, located at 30 Dowling Circle in Parkville, Maryland. The blaze quickly escalated to multiple alarms and multiple rescues of residents were made. At one point a mayday was sounded for a report of an injured firefighter during a flashover that occurred. The injured firefighter, Mark Falkenhan of the Lutherville Volunteer Fire Company in Baltimore County, was rushed to a local hospital with serious burns, where he succumbed to his injuries.

FBI Agent Hicks' killer pleads guilty

COP KILLER SENTENCED: Cop Killer Christine Korbe has been sentenced to 15+ years in prison for the Nov. 19, 2008 Murder of F.B.I. SPECIAL AGENT SAMUEL STEELE HICKS, 33, after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter. 70 months of this sentence is for the killing and 120 months is for the firearms charges (terms to run consecutive). Agent Hicks was the first in during a raid on the home of a drug suspect. While her husband ran down the stairs to dispose of dope, this bitch opened fire on the Agents, striking and killing our Brother. After the sentencing today, a statement she wrote was read. The first small part was an insincere apology followed by several pages of her blaming the feds. (a link for this is attached).

Sam left behind his beloved bride Brooke and their 2 year old son Noah, his mom Charlotte and her husband, his dad David and his wife, brother Ben and sister Emily along with extended family. Sam also left behind so many Brothers and Sisters of Blue. So many who absolutely loved this Hero. Before joining the F.B.I. in March 2007, this Warrior began is career in Law Enforcement with the Ocean City (Maryland) PD and then served five years with the Baltimore PD. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers continue to be with the Hicks family, both blood and Blue.

When I post these sentences, it is not to get everyone riled up. Look, we all know what the true Justice would be ... The Hero alive and the scumbag dead. I post this so those whom have had the pleasure and privilege of working with Sam can leave their fond memories and share with those Brothers and Sisters who have not. This also helps us to Never Forget those gone before who now wrap their wings in protection as we carry on in the battle ... In Their Honor along with reminding the citizens what we are all willing to sacrifice ... for them.

We pray you are resting with some peace Sam as you continue to watch over your beloved Brooke and Noah ... As we carry on the watch. We thank you SPECIAL AGENT SAMUEL STEELE HICKS and we SALUTE YOU SIR. God Bless Brother.

Several FDNY firefighters injured battling multi-alarm fire

On Monday, January 17, 2011 FDNY was dispatched to a reported structure fire at JSJ Ironworks, a one-story commercial structure located at 150th Street/95th Avenue in Jamaica, Queens section of New York. There were reportedly hazardous materials in the building which contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. The fire quickly escalated to seven or eight alarms bringing 200 firefighters to the scene. The intense fire raged for 10 hours before it was declared under control. There was a structural collapse, which injured the firefighters. Following the collapse, operations were defensive only, as the structure was too unsafe for interior attack.

E.O.W. 2011 Fallen Heroes in Blue

It is hard to imagine that we are only 18 days into the new year of 2011 and already there have been (9) law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. Of the nine L.E.O. killed, 5 of them have been a result of gunfire. This has to stop.....too many officers are making the ultimate sacrifice!! Too many lives taken, too many families shattered.....more names being etched into the wall at the National Law Enforcement memorial in Washington DC.

New Jersey Volunteer Fire Company still haunted by 2008 fire

The New Sharon Volunteer Fire Company in Gloucester County, New Jersey is still trying to rebuild after a raging fire destroyed their fire station in December 2008. It has been an ongoing struggle, as not only did the fire company lose pretty much everything that they had in the blaze, but a member of the fire company had embezzled over $500,000 from the fire company, leaving them just over $100 in their bank accounts. The dedicated firefighters of this department are trying to get their second home back up and operational again, however they are in need of assistance to make it happen.

FIRE RESCUE 1

Several trailers destroyed by fire in South Heights (Beaver County, PA)

On Sunday, January 16, 2011 at approximately 3:40a.m. Fire units were dispatched to a reported trailer fire in trailer court on Bradbury Drive off of Jordan Street in South Heights.
First arriving units reported a fully involved trailer with exposures. Crews also experienced water supply issues with nearby hydrants. Multiple mutual aid companies were called in for tankers and manpower.
Tanker shuttle operations were set up as crews battled the fast moving fire and worked on protecting the exposures.

Firefighters from Hopewell, Crescent, Independence, Ambridge, Aliquippa, Center, Monaca, Bell Acres and Moon Township battled the blaze for a couple of hours before bringing the flames under control.
Crews remained on the scene for an extended period of time extinguishing hot spots. Crews not only had to battle the intense flames, but the frigid temperatures and ice as well.
In all, three trailers were a total loss and one trailer across Bradbury Drive from the involved trailers, sustained damage from the radiant heat.

American Red Cross personnel were at the scene assisting those displaced by the fire, by providing them with clothing, food and temporary shelter. During the height of the fire, those displaced went to a nearby warming shelter, as they escaped with only the clothes that they had on. The State Police Fire Marshal was called to the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

R.I.P. Jarrett Eleam Big Tree Volunteer Fire Company

The Big Tree Volunteer Fire Company is saddened to announce the death of one of its members. Jarrett Eleam, 26, an active member since October of 2009, died Wednesday evening following a short illness. Mr. Eleam felt ill Monday evening following a routine fire training exercise. He was transported to Mercy Hospital of Buffalo by his brother and sister members via the fire company's paramedic level ambulance. He was admitted for observation and his condition deteriorated. The cause of his death is still under investigation. Firefighters from Big Tree and neighboring companies were present along with the Eleam family at Jarrett's side to offer thoughts and prayers prior to his passing on Wednesday evening. Jarrett was an avid member of the department and would always be available to help out with any given task. He was recently installed as the company's fire prevention lieutenant. Jarrett's will to save lives through the fire service will be continued through his donation of organs. The Big Tree fire company will be offering their condolences with the family in Pittsburgh, PA. A local memorial service for Brother Eleam will be scheduled in the near future. This will give an opportunity for friends and other fire companies to pay respects. Details for the memorial service will be posted on this website when they become available. Monetary contributions will be accepted to honor his legacy by improving the fire company he so selflessly served on this page. Portions of contributions will also go to Upstate New York Transplant Services.

Man catches pregnant wife when fire forces her to jump from window

On Tuesday, January 11, 2011 shortly after 3:00a.m. San Mateo County California Fire Dispatch received reports of a structure fire at an apartment building located at 2515 Carlmont Drive in Belmont California. An occupant escaped the burning building and was able to catch his pregnant wife who was forced to jump to safety from a 2nd floor window. The man sustained an ankle injury, however he was able to break his wife's fall. In all, there were 6 injured in the two-alarm blaze.

Two 5 alarm fires within 24 hours in Philadelphia

On Monday afternoon, January 10, 2011, Philadelphia Fire units were dispatched to the Windmere Court apartment complex for multiple reports of a building fire. Heavy smoke and fire was issuing from the four-story, 90 unit brick structure. The fire quickly spread and conditions rapidly deteriorated. The incident quickly escalated to 5-alarms.

Philadelphia firefighters battled another 5-alarm fire on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at the Global Leadership Academy, located at 5151 Warren Street in West Philadelphia.
